THE JOURNEY OF DAENERYS TARGARYEN: A HERO ARCHETYPAL ANALYSIS

Abstract
The Game of Thrones is a televised series for HBO directed by D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, adapted from George R.R. Martin’s best-selling book, A Song of Ice and Fire. In this study, the researchers observed the character Daenerys Targaryen and analyzed her journey to claim the Iron Throne. The study employed Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey to find out Daenerys’ journey is that of a hero of myths according to Campbell’s stages and to determine the archetypes of characters revolving around Daenerys. Based on the result, the researchers found nine stages on Daenerys’ journey as the hero of the series like The Call to Adventures and eight of the others, as well as multiple characters and their archetypes that appear in this movie, such as The Hero, Mentor, and six other archetypes, The research concludes that there are differences in Daenerys’ journey as the hero based on Campbell’s stages.
